About Inspiring Cycling
Inspiring Cycling offers quality, sociable and rewarding cycling packages. Our trips are for anyone who enjoys the thrill of seeing the superb scenery of the UK on two wheels.
At the hub of everything we do is an enthusiasm and fascination with cycling and seeing the great outdoors of Great Britain by bike. We aim to share this with you and give you the best possible experience by offering the perfect combination of hospitality, fun and exhilaration.
We’re based in Cumbria’s Eden Valley – an idyllic cycling destination of quiet country lanes in its own right – which is criss-crossed by several long distance routes. We’re just a few pedal strokes away from the C2C, Lakes and Dales Loop, Pennine Cycleway, Walney to Wear, Hadrian’s Cycleway and Lands End to John o’Groats.
It’s simple really: our trips are about combining the thrill of balancing on two wheels whilst riding through unbeatable scenery. We don’t think riding a bike should be taken too seriously. Whether you’re riding to the shops, commuting to and from work, going for a lazy ride along the canal towpath or 60 miles into a 100 mile sportive, riding a bike should be enjoyed and celebrated. There’s no reason that the childlike thrill of balancing on two wheels shouldn’t stay with you all your life.
Inspiring Cycling is owned and run by Jason Taylor, who has worked in tourism throughout the world for the past 15 years, initially as an international tour guide – guiding in countries as diverse as Iran, Norway, Bhutan and Oman – and recently running his own Lake District Mountain Guiding company. A native Yorkshireman, Jason now lives in Cumbria’s Eden Valley with his wife and two children. He’s a qualified Cytech bike mechanic.
The trips we organize are all self-guided, which gives you the flexibility to ride at your own pace and stop off when you wish. You’ll be provided with all the information you need to get you from A to B each day with minimum hassle or worry. We want you to get the very best experience possible out of your chosen cycling holiday and we can tailor our trips as much as possible to your specific requirements, whether it’s accommodation, transport back-up and bike hire.
Finding Your Way
Good quality maps and detailed route notes are always provide to ensure you can find your way with minimum hassle. GPS navigation devices can be hired, which give you turn-by-turn instructions or we can also provide you with data files to upload to your own device.
We operate a number of scheduled departures on specific dates for our Coast to Coast, Way of the Roses and Lakes and Dales Loop trips. Offering these ‘open’ trips allow us to offer affordable trips for individuals and smaller groups and can be booked by anyone, whether you’re an individual or part of a group. Whether you choose to ride on your own or with other cyclists in the group is entirely up to you.
Private Group Bookings and Bespoke Trips
We also organize cycling holidays and trips that can be tailored to you or your groups’ specific needs. These can be trips on established routes that we already offer or something completely different based around an area you want to explore by bike – just get in touch and we’ll do our best to come up with your ideal itinerary.
We realise that there are different levels of cycling experience and ability, so on most of our trips you’ll have the option of a dedicated support driver. They are there to help you out in times of need, such as a mechanical problem, route finding or simply to suggest great places to eat and drink en route. Your support driver will discuss the route ahead with you each morning and never be far away should you need their assistance.
If you’re a confident mechanic and prefer to be more independent, then you have the option of an unsupported trip where you’ll need to be more self-sufficient. We will, of course, provide you with details of transport providers and nearby cycle mechanics and we’re always at the end of the phone should you need to get in touch.
On all of our scheduled trips, you’ll stay in guesthouse/B&B or small hotel accommodation. Wherever possible we prefer the accommodation we use to be locally owned as this benefits the local economy better and you get more of a sense of ‘locale’ than you do from a chain. We know that our customers prefer it that way too. We only use accommodation that’s tried and tested by us, or comes highly recommended from a trusted source. For our group bookings and tailor made cycling trips we can organize the accommodation to suit your tastes and budget. This can vary from campsites through to luxury hotels – whatever you fancy just let us know and we’ll do our best to find you your ideal accommodation on your chosen route.
